I love David Bowie and had no idea that he had been ill with cancer until the news of his death. It was another disease—the disease of addiction—that brought me to my knees and made a crack in the façade of a life I’d built just enough to let a little light inside. This is when my search for a Higher Power began. Thank goodness I had other people with me on the path of recovery who were looking within themselves and encouraged me to do the same. Without help, I don’t know where I’d be today.

Per A Course in Miracles (emphasis is mine): “Seek not outside yourself. For all your pain comes simply from a futile search for what you want, insisting where it must be found. What if it is not there? Do you prefer that you be right or happy?” (Text Ch29, VII.1:6-9)
